Carson Update

Carson got progressively worse since our last post. We came to Texas Children's Hospital's ER Thursday night where they administered a deep suction in order to get all of the mucus out of his throat and nose, took chest x-rays, and tested him for RSV and the flu. He is RSV positive. The chest x-rays did not show pneumonia at that time, and the deep suction seemed to really help him. We were released around midnight and he did great that night.

By Friday at noon, everything had changed. He was wheezing, not really eating, and laboring to breathe. We took his temperature and it was 100.3. We came straight back to the ER where we were taken to the Rapid Care Treatment Area. We arrived around 2 pm and were admitted around 11 pm. His temp was 101.7 when we got here. The temp had fallen to around 99 by the time we got in our room and broke overnight. It has gone up again today, but the highest it got was 100. He started eating really well again this afternoon. In fact, he fed off of me and then needed ANOTHER 3 oz to get full this evening. We did more chest x-rays today and we just found out that they show one of two things: 1.) one lung has folded over on itself which will heal itself in a couple of days or 2.) he is developing pneumonia. Since it's the weekend, we probably won't have definitive answers on the urine, blood, and whooping cough tests they conducted yesterday until Monday. Our pediatrician said we will probably be here until at least Monday or Tuesday. There's a chance it could be longer because he wants to make sure Carson is 100% before sending us home. We're fine with that.

I will post more as we know more. Dr. Wolens will be back tomorrow morning and I will post an update then. Chad and I are nervous, but it really helps to be able to rely on one another. Chad does really well during the deep suction and I do well with other tests. While its hard watching him go through this we know he is in great hands and will pull through with a little more time.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate it so much. We will post more as we know more.

Love to all!
-Jaymie and Chad-
