Breathing Treatments

Well, we're getting to know Dr. Wolens quite well. We had to go back to see him again today. Carson was so congested he could hardly breathe. He was also coughing so hard he was practically screaming on the last cough. The first thing Dr. Wolens asked us was, "Okay guys...has he been around anybody that had a cough?" Immediately I realized that he had. Unfortunately, we didn't realize how serious it was for him to be around people with a cough. He can't take antibiotics yet - he's still too young. We'll just have to be more careful from here on out.

Anyway, he definitely has RSV and it could be turning into asthma. He now has a wheeze when he's breathing, so he is on breathing treatments every 4-6 hours. Bless his heart. We did a breathing treatment in the office and it seemed to help. Dr. Wolens wasn't completely satisfied, so he did a deep suction on him. He snaked a tube up his nose and down his throat into his chest to get as much phlegm out as he could. I could not take his crying (I was bawling), so Chad stayed in there with him for that procedure. They got quite a bit out and he was immediately relieved and much more calm. Bless his little heart.

We got home and he ate much better, even though he was still pretty congested. We're going to try giving him the treatments every 6 hours first because I don't want to over medicate the little guy. He's not coughing near as much as he was before, so that's good. He is also wide awake whereas he has been very lethargic all day.

Please pray that he gets better soon. We feel so terrible for him having to start out this way. He's had a pretty rough last couple of weeks. We are both ready for him to get well so he can feel better.

Love to everyone!
